The N.H. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources will hold a virtual public information session on March 16, 2021 from 6 to 7 p.m. regarding the utility safety upgrade project at Miller State Park. A link will be provided, for those interested in attending the Virtual Public Information Session, on the Miller State Park project webpage at www.nhstateparks.org/news-events/improving-state-parks/miller-state-park-utility-work. The link to join the information session will be available on the website on March 12. The page also contains the project history and will include the updated plan prior to the public information session. Throughout 2020, the N.H. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Eversource, and state and local stakeholders developed a plan to upgrade the infrastructure at the summit. Adjacent to the Eversource utility work, the Department and stakeholders secured necessary funding to transition the overhead utility lines at the summit to underground service to preserve the summit esthetics, reduce environmental impact and improve the overall visitor experience.
Miller State Park is located on the 2,290-foot summit and flank of Pack Monadnock in Peterborough and is the oldest state park in New Hampshire. A winding 1.3-mile paved road leading to the scenic summit is open for visitors to drive. The Division of Parks and Recreation is comprised of the Bureau of Park Operations, Bureau of Historic Sites, Bureau of Trails, and Cannon Mountain. The Division manages 93 properties, including state parks, beaches, campgrounds, historic sites, trails, waysides, and natural areas. The Division of Parks and Recreation is one of five divisions of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
