Locals Donate Hundreds of Mittens and Merrimack County Savings Bank Matches with $1000

Merrimack County Savings Bank (the Merrimack) is pleased to donate a total of $1000 to the Friendly Kitchen in Concord, Hooksett Community Food Pantry, Hopkinton Food Pantry, the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter and the Twin Rivers Interfaith Food Pantry in Franklin as a result of their annual Mitten Tree Program. Thanks to the kind support of the community, 388 winter weather accessories, including hats, mittens and scarves, were collected and distributed to local families in need.

Community members are asked by the Merrimack each year to donate new handmade or store bought mittens, hats, scarves and gloves between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day for their annual Mitten Tree Drive. The Bank then donates $2 for each item collected.

“The Mitten Tree is a wonderful program that grows each year,” said Linda Lorden, President of Merrimack County Savings Bank. “Not only are we able to gather hundreds of hats, mittens, scarves and gloves for those who need them, but we also contributed to organizations that provide food to local families and individuals in need. People in the community have told us that they buy mittens and gloves at end of season sales to donate the following year, and some knit all year long to support the effort.”

Unlike a stock bank, Merrimack County Savings Bank is a mutual savings bank that operates for the benefit of their depositors, borrowers and surrounding communities. As a result, the Bank has remained steadfast in fostering the economic health and well-being of the community, prioritizing the values of accountability, mutuality, excellence, respect, integrity, teamwork and stewardship in all matters of business and service. Founded in 1867, Merrimack County Savings Bank has been serving the people, businesses, non-profits and municipalities in central and southern New Hampshire for over 150 years. The Merrimack was voted “Best Bank” by the Capital Area’s People’s Preferences for the 10th consecutive year in 2020.
