Celebrate Independence Day in Henniker. The Newmont Military Band, comprised of 22 members from NH, Massachusetts and Vermont, began as a re-creation of a small-town brass band of the late 1800s. Most of the brass instruments played by the musicians in the band are originals, i.e., were either manufactured prior to, or based on, designs drawn before 1895, producing a sound indicative of the old-time bands. A semi-acoustic instrumental and vocal quarter interpreting songs from the twenties to the 21st century. The group has been delighting audiences across southern New Hampshire and surrounding areas for 20 years. Incorporating elements of jazz, swing, blues, bluegrass, rock, folk and world music styles. A 5- piece group of acoustic guitar, trombone, sax/flute, stand-up bass, keyboard/accordion, drums and vocals. The band plays American roots music. Sets have a heavy mix of Jazz, Motown, New Orleans Mardi Gras and Cajun music as well as some originals. All their music has a strong connection to American musical traditions. They choose songs from this vast reservoir and play them in their own inimitable, irresistible acoustic-jam-band-style, while you dance, or just sit back and listen.
