Governor Sununu to Celebrate NH Farmers’ Market Week and NH Eat Local Month in Derry on August 7th

8/6/2019

Governor Chris Sununu has proclaimed the week of August 4-10, 2019 as the 20th Annual New Hampshire Farmers’ Market Week.  It coincides with the 2019 National Farmers’ Market Week and is part of celebrations happening across the country.

Governor Sununu has also proclaimed the month of August as New Hampshire Eat Local Month, the annual celebration of New Hampshire’s food and agricultural production. August is the peak of the summer growing season and when a large variety of foods are available. Farmers’ markets are a great representation of the diversity of NH products and Farmers’ Market Week is the perfect kick off to Eat Local Month.
To Commemorate Farmers’ Market Week and Eat Local Month, Governor Sununu will join NH Commissioner of Agriculture, Shawn Jasper in a visit to the Derry Homegrown Farm & Artisan Market on Wednesday, August 7th.  They will meet members of the farmers’ market and other local dignitaries for a brief event that gets underway at 4 pm.

The Derry Homegrown Farm & Artisan Market is held downtown at 1 West Broadway every Wednesday from 3-7pm, June - September. In addition to a diverse selection of products and vendors, the market also offers family entertainment, children’s activities and community demonstrations throughout the season.

Farmers’ markets provide an important venue for farmers to market their goods. They also connect farmers directly to customers and offer the opportunity for shoppers to converse with those who raised the products. Farmers’ markets support communities by bringing the ambience of the farm to the city or town, by making fresh and nutritious food readily available, and by giving consumers the ability to purchase locally grown products with ease.

Local farmers’ markets will be celebrating Farmers’ Market Week with a variety of events such as cooking demonstrations, food tastings, music, entertainment, children’s activities and more. To see a list of farmers’ markets all around the state visit: https://www.agriculture.nh.gov/publications-forms/documents/farmers-market-directory.pdf

New Hampshire celebrates NH Eat Local Month throughout the month of August, with many local activities throughout the state.  Find more information about the scheduled activities and more about New Hampshire Eat Local Month at: http://nheatlocal.org/
