BOSCAWEN OLD HOME DAY NEWS AND VIEWS

The Red Sox visit is officially in the rear view mirror and it was judged by all to be a big success. A large number of town folk, together with a couple of hundred school kids from the Boscawen Elementary School enjoyed the presence of the Red Sox 2018 World Series Trophy accompanied by mascots Wally and Tessie. Wally and Tessie dispensed hundreds of hugs, high fives and posed for pictures with everybody. There are many folks to thank, but especially Ross Express who donated the funds to get the mascots here; Katy and Colm Brophy for the use of their lovely wedding barn; school officials, teachers and bus drivers from BES; and the several members of the BOHD Committee whose time and effort were appreciated, big time!
So, now it is on the 120th Boscawen Old Home Day, officially on August 24th, but starting Tuesday, August 20th with “An Evening with Elektrisola.” At 5pm, WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS will be on stage with a variety of fascinating “wild” animals which will be described, discussed, photographed and petted (carefully, in some cases). Refreshments will be served.
The Annual Boscawen Old Home Day Golf Classic is on for Thursday, August 22nd, with a popgun start at 9am. Golf, cart, prizes galore and a terrific chicken barbeque, all for $360. per foursome. Sponsorships are available and most welcome starting at only $100. A great way to advertise your business before 80 or so ready and willing consumers. All you need to know at www.townofboscawen.org, click on Old Home Day.
This promises to be a very special Old Home Day, starting with the Parade at 11am. Polly Dawson, BOHD President and Chair of the Parade Committee has been working with the Penacook American Legion who are celebrating their 100th Anniversary in Grand Fashion. They will be including their Motorcycle Group, a float recognizing their first leader, a  WW1 Float, and will recognize their sponsorships for the   Sea Cadets, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and more. The parade will also include The Baker River Band, several floats with lots of kids dispensing candy. Starting at the Town Office (not the Town Hall), the parade will go along North Main Street to the Elementary School before disbursing.
The afternoon will be filled with numerous activities at Jamie Welch Field, down Depot Street. The Balloon Twister, Touch-A-Truck, Magic Fred and Simon Brooks, Story Teller with be the featured attractions. But let’s not forget the Bouncy Houses, lots of exhibits and food, lots and lots of food..
At 4pm the famous Charlie Jaworski Chicken Barbeque is on tap. Tickets are still only $10 for the meal, and I mean MEAL! Back to the ballfield, and at 6pm or so, the entertainment is on and the Food Court is open! Until the Fireworks around 9pm. The Fireworks are sponsored by an appropriation at Town Meeting and donations received at the Red Sox event. THANK YOU!...AND ENJOY!!!
