NRRA’S ANNUAL EARTH DAY BACKYARD COMPOST BIN SALE

Epsom, NH – In celebration of Earth Day, April 22, 2015, the Northeast Resource Recovery Association (NRRA) will once again sponsor the ever popular “Annual Backyard Compost Bin Sale” to support nature’s way of recycling!  This year’s sale includes compost bins, rain barrels, kitchen pails and compost turners.
As the first non-profit recycling organization in the United States, the NRRA has been helping member municipalities and businesses advance their recycling efforts for over 30 years with the ultimate goal of reducing waste and increasing recycling regionally.  The Compost Bin Sale is an annual fundraiser and is one of many programs offered by NRRA to help reduce waste in greater New England.  It is estimated that over 25% of an average household’s waste contains kitchen scraps and yard trimmings.  This material can be readily composted instead of thrown into overburdened landfills or burned at an incineration facility.
Utilizing the principal of cooperative purchasing, the NRRA is able to offer participating groups high quality Earth Machine™ (www.earthmachine.com) compost bins for less than half the retail price as well as Systern™ Rain Barrels, Kitchen Scrap Pails, and Compost Turners!  The Earth Machine is an 80 gallon bin, which is made of 100%, recycled plastic, enable residents to convert leaves, grass and table scraps into an abundant supply of rich garden soil.
Last year organizations from NH, VT, MA & CT participated with over 360 compost bins being sold.  Each bin diverts approximately 500 pounds of waste from the waste stream.  The 2014 sale helped divert a total of 180,000 pounds of waste from Northeastern landfills and incinerators.  That is the equivalent of about 8 garbage trucks full of waste!
If you missed your chance to purchase a compost bin, kitchen pail, rain barrel or compost turner or to participate as a group last year, please contact Stacey Morrison at 1-800-223-0150 or go to www.nrra.net.  We’re taking orders until March 13th ! Please consider helping your community reduce waste by coordinating a sale for your town.
