UPCOMING EVENTS for the first part of 2012 From your friends at Boscawen AgComm The seed catalogues are out for the New Year, so we can start thinking about Agricultural happenings again. This year we have ongoing Winter Farmers' Markets nearby in Tilton, Concord, and Contoocook. For the most up-to-date information about Winter Markets, check out: http://www.nh.gov/agric/publications/documents/WinterFM.pdf. We are also starting again with the “First Monday” speaker series, so start marking up your brand new calendar.
The NH Farm & Forest Exposition, will be on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4 at the Conference Center of NH at the Radisson Hotel, 800 Elm St. in Manchester. Admission price is $7 per person; age 15 and under admitted for free. Save $1 off the admission price by bringing 2 non-perishable food items which will be donated to the NH Food Bank.

On Monday, March 19th, 6:30 p.m. The Agricultural Commission along with the Boscawen Public Library will present: Speaking for Wildlife, a brand new program offered through UNH, the USDA, and the County Extension offices in NH. The first program we will offer is New Hampshire's Wild History: 350 years of New Hampshire Wildlife. Takes participants on a virtual journey through New Hampshire's past, focusing on changes in the land and how wildlife populations have responded over time. Focus in on rare wildlife and habitats. On Saturday, March 31st, Amy Ouellette, Educator at the Extension Service, will conduct an in-the-field Small Fruit Pruning Demonstration from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Pustizzi Fruit Farm, 148 Corn Hill Road in Boscawen. If parking is not available at the Fruit Stand, Joe says to go to the house just beyond and park in his farm-yard, there is plenty of room. Dress for being outside for a couple of hours. Amy says this will be the best day to prune, just prior to the fruit breaking dormancy. Corn Hill Road runs west from Route 4 two streets beyond the Church intersection at the 3 & 4 split. Saturday, May 11th, Tim Fleury, Extension Forester, will take us on a Tree Identification Walk from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., somewhere in Boscawen on public land, destination and parking TBA.
